Today Daddy went back to work but he'll be back to feed you by the bottle for the first time at your 6 p.m. feeding. Mommy and Daddy stayed on the hospital's campus again last night so we were close to you while the roads were still icy from the snow storm.
When I arrived at 8:45 a.m. you were back on your jaundice light. This was to be expected, but of course Mommy was sad that your levels went back up. The nurses said your bilirubin level went back up to 11.5 from around 8 the day before. That's a pretty big jump, but again the docs say this is extremely normal.
Mommy fed you by breast for about 15 minutes at your 9 a.m. feeding and then fed you the rest by bottle, which meant you didn't need your feeding tube during this feeding. That was so, so great!!! You continue to get sleepy halfway through your feedings when they are by breast or bottle but you're truly getting the hang of it. Mommy held you for a long time after you were done eating. While I was holding you the occupational therapist came in to check your left foot that is turned in a little. She said your foot has improved, but to continue to keep stretching you…which we do daily!

Mommy's friend Gina came to see me at the hospital and we had lunch together before your 3 p.m. feeding. Aunt Gina brought you some very cute clothes! I can't wait to put them on you!
At your 3 p.m. diaper change, Nurse Kathy delivered some news that didn't make Mommy happy. In fact, I got really sad. For the first time a nurse had to help you through a 'brady episode.' This is basically when you forget to breathe and your nervous system needs a reminder to breathe. These are extremely common in preemies and typically nothing to really worry about, however in all the 'brady's' you've had so far you've been able to resolve them yourself…meaning you were able to remind yourself to breathe. Today Nurse Kathy had to tap your feet a little bit and then you took a breath. She said it wasn't a bad episode, but your skin color was changing slightly so she knew she had to help you out. Again these are very normal, but they scare Mommy and Daddy really bad. I pray every night that these 'brady episodes' will stop. I hope they do very soon.
We are up to two breast feeds and two bottle feeds a day. We are waiting for Daddy to do your final bottle feed when he gets here at 6p. So for your 3p feeding Mommy just snuggled with you while you were fed through your feeding tube. Oh, and the nurse weighed you again today and you basically maintained your weight which is good. You lost just a little from yesterday (1671 grams down to 1663 grams) but that is still around 3 lbs. 10 ounces.

Mommy was extra sad leaving you tonight. The 'brady episode' today was extra scary for Mommy and Daddy even though it's considered 'normal.' I tried to make you promise that you wouldn't have any more 'bradies' but I think it might not be fair to make that promise for a few more weeks.
Although today seemed like a 'not-so-good' day, it did end on a good note. You received your first piece of mail -- your social security card! This made Mommy and Daddy so happy!
