5 months old

5 months old
14 lbs, 11 oz

Dear Colton,

You're 5 months old and you're getting so big! So many fun things have happened this month. The best thing…you started laughing! You love to be tickled on your neck and have even started to giggle when Mommy and Daddy make funny and sounds. Your giggle is of course the cutest giggle we've ever heard.

Mommy and Daddy also have given you your space in your room and are now sleeping in their own bed at night while you sleep in your crib, in your room…all by yourself. You're doing so well and seem to really like it in there.

You're now in 6-9 month clothes are holding your head up so well and have found your hands that you like to suck on pretty much all day long. You are still taking a bottle every 3 hours during the day and eating about 4-5 oz at a time. Just recently you started to eat 6 oz but mostly in the evenings when you cluster feed right before bed.

You continue to love to be carried in the baby carrier on the front of Mommy and love riding in the car. You've become fascinated with your cousins Caroline, Payton, Chase and Colin and I can tell at the way you stare and smile at them that you can't wait to be able to play with them.

We finally have figured out your eating challenges. After going through multiple formulas we finally found one {Elecare, an amino-acid based formula} that works perfectly with your digestive system. You seem to have a milk/soy intolerance, which has caused you some discomfort in digesting the formulas we were feeding you previously. The doctors don't seem worried and say that you will most likely grow out of it and will be able to drink milk and other dairy products just fine as you get older.

The formula is the best there is at $47 per can, which you go through in about 2 1/2 days. It's so expensive Mommy and Daddy told your older brother Youk he was going to have to get a job to help contribute to the family budget! Only kidding. Mommy is working with the doctor and our insurance company to hopefully help with the cost. But, no matter what the outcome, Mommy and Daddy are not worried about the cost, because as long as your comfortable and feeling better, we'll do whatever it takes to make sure you continue to feel that way!

Happy 5 Months buddy! We love you!!!
